Information for creating legal references in APA Style is in the The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Appendix 7.1: References to Legal Materials on pages 216 – 224. The section shows sample references for legal documents, including court decisions, statutes, administrative regulations, and executive orders.

A good way to start your research is by locating resources that provide an overview of your topic, and give background information and identify potential keywords in your subject area. Encyclopedias, handbooks and subject specific dictionaries offer good places to start.
